Remove domain pointer
« on: April 23, 2012, 01:30:57 AM »
I have a couple of domains set as Domain pointers - they point at another website/domain I have.  I now want to remove the pointers and either set up proper websites, or point them at another

When I try to remove the pointers, it says "Domain cannot be deleted because it points to a Web site.
Delete Web site and/or Web site pointer attached to this domain first."

I do not want to delete the website that it points to, as this is still in use, and I cannot find any way of removing the pointer from within control panel.  Any ideas How I can do this?

Hello,

You can remove the domain pointer from the website's properties page of your control panel.

Login to your control panel > web > websites > click on the site to which the pointer is set > go to the "pointers" tab > and there you will get option to delete the pointer.

I'm trying to do the same thing, and this solution didn't help for some reason... (I don't see this other domain pointer listed under the properties of my web site.) I'd like to set up my pointer domain as a separate website with a 301 redirect to my main site.

When I try to remove the domain pointer, I get a message that the domain is mail-enabled.  Do I just need to delete the mail dns records? I understand that those mail accounts would most likely need to be recreated...

Thanks in advance!
