Dotnetnuke - HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable.

Running DNN 7 and everything was working good until yesterday.

Now the site appears to run fine until I try to make a change to it such as editing text in an HTML module.

After the change I start getting "HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable."

Restarting the application pool using the web support portal stop/start button doesn't help. I keep having to have the server support team do whatever they do to recycle the pool and then it works fine again until I make another change.

I'm assuming it has something to do with either the number of work processes or some other limitation set by the hosting settings such as memory utilization etc but the support team hasn't provided me with a server log that would allow me to identify a specific issue.

I've done some research and have found that other known issues could be the logs created in the database when a site is changed, etc. I have used the web support portal to truncate the sql database (single button click) but I'm not sure if that worked or not, the site has been down for nearly 24 hours.

Any suggestions?

Hello,
my DNN website (v7 too) is now also experiencing frequent 503 outtakes - support told me it's due to CPU throttling. Do you have found any solution for the problem or switched to another CMS?

Hello,
of course, ticket id is #DLI-192-63905.

As support told me that there is nothing in the server logs (while I was expecting some high resource usage by DNN causing the pool to be disabled) I don't really know where to look for the problem...
If the website will continue to create 503 downtimes I'll maybe try to switch to some other CMS like Orchard, maybe they are more resource friendly?

yes, everything is working fine at the moment. I still donít know why this 503s occurred, though. As a too high memory consumption would only cause a recycle my guess was that DNN is using too much CPU time. However, your logs show nothing so thatís quite strange.
Well, Iíve created a Scheduled Task to check for 503s and if this will happen again maybe Iíll change the CMS to Orchard or MojoPortal or something like that.
